Observations from clinical trials

Since its introduction on the market, the STAUDT® therapy sleeve (night bandage) has been repeatedly tested in scientific studies. All of the tests and observations from clinical studies that have been performed have demonstrated outstanding results, convincing both scientists and experts of the effectiveness of the STAUDT® therapy sleeve.

Results of the observational study on STAUDT® therapy sleeves, 2017

During the period from 1 March to 31 August 2017, an observational study on the STAUDT® therapy sleeves was carried out under the medical direction of Dr Renate Strasser, Medical Director at Bad Schallerbacherhof Hospital in Bad Schallerbach, Austria, and Bärenhof Health Center in Bad Gastein, Austria, with medical supervision by Dr Sebastian Edtinger. The study looked at the effects of the STAUDT® knee sleeve, shoulder sleeve, back sleeve and glove sleeve. Fifty individuals were examined for this purpose. (conducted by Strasser & Edtinger [1], Bad Schallerbach and Bad Gastein, Austria)

The classification and determination of the degree of pain was established using a numerical rating scale from 1 to 10. Imagery was incorporated to facilitate the process of determining the rating.

The values were calculated by adding the sum of the pain points of all the patients (sum of all pain points was initially 203 points – page 13) and considered in relation to the cumulative changes on the respective observation day. The result was shown as a total and as a percentage. (Sum of pain points on day 7 = 156 = reduction of 23%).

Summary of test results after the end of treatment:

  • Following the test, 100% of patients experienced a reduction in pain after 21 days
  • 92% found the STAUDT sleeve (night bandage) comfortable to wear
  • 89% rated the effect as ‘very good’ or ‘good
  • 82% of patients were able to sleep undisturbed despite wearing the sleeve

A reduction in pain greater than 55% indicates a significant improvement in quality of life – and this is achieved with a bandage worn during the night.

STAUDT® therapy sleeves Evaluated in hospitals, tested by doctors

Below is a list of other tests and clinical observations from previous years based on measurements of ‘therapeutic success’ and ‘tolerability’, which confirm the positive effect achieved by STAUDT® therapy sleeves (bandages intended for use at night).

Study conducted by Wicker [2], Salzburg, Austria

Participants in the Study:

A cohort of 164 subjects was tested consisting primarily of athletes with:

  • Back, shoulder and knee problems
  • Circulatory disorders

Study director:

Dr Anton Wicker, Head of the University Clinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Salzburg Provincial Hospitals

Dr Anton Wicker is described by specialist colleagues as a pioneer in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation due to the key role he has played in shaping the development of this field. Among other things, he has worked as a team doctor for the Austrian Ski Association, as an Olympic team doctor, as a World Cup doctor and as the president of the Austrian Society of Physical Medicine.

Results of the test:

  • The treatment was successful for 159 participants
  • Lymphatic stasis was reduced
  • 97% of all study participants reported a reduction in pain
  • 99% of the participants rated the wearing comfort as "very good" or "good"

STAUDT® therapy sleeves – assessment of of therapeutic success

    Completely free of symptoms 19%
    Significant pain reduction 43%
    Noticeable relief 35%
    No appreciable improvement 3%

STAUDT® therapy sleeves - Evaluation of tolerability

    High tolerability 86%
    Good tolerability 13%
    Moderate tolerability 1%

conducted by Chlud [3], Vienna, Austria

Participants in the study:

80 patients with chronic diseases were tested

Study director:

Dr Karl Chlud, II Medical Department of Osteology and Rheumatology, Kaiser-Franz-Josef Hospital, Vienna

Results of the test:

  • Reduction of morning stiffness, start-up and stress pain
  • Significant reduction in anti-inflammatory drugs and analgesics
  • Prevention of operational intervention

Results according to disease:

  • Decompensated gonarthroses: reduced need for use of antirheumatics and analgesics after 2–7 days
  • Coxarthroses: reduced need for use of antirheumatics and analgesics after 3–6 days
  • Periarthropathies of the elbow: reduction of pain both at rest and during movement
  • Frozen shoulder: reduction of local infiltration and use of systemic drugs
  • Chronic polyarthritis and osteoarthritis: reduced morning stiffness
  • Chronic joint inflammation, pseudogout, pressure necrosis: pain reduction after 2–3 days
  • Osteoporosis of the axial skeleton: reduction of tone of the paravertebral muscles leads to pain reduction and analgesic effect after 1–3 days
  • Cervical syndrome: reduction of dysesthesia and paraesthesia
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome: reduced pain during movement and at night; no need for surgery in five of eight patients

[4] Linz, Austria
